Genius Hour
This year our class will be participating in Genius Hour! Based on a concept by Google, students spend an hour a week exploring their own passions by investigating new ideas or skills. It is a great opportunity for students to study and learn about topics and ideas that interest them. Students will spend this time focusing on researching their topics, learning all they can, and creating some type of presentation to share with the class.
The goal is to investigate three different ideas or topics throughout year. Once the students receive approval from the teacher on their idea, they will explore information using the internet, books, library resources, interviews, etc. The presentations can be a poster, PowerPoint, video, skit/play, or any other approved presentation.
TUSC
As part of our Language Arts program, we will be doing an ongoing activity called TUSC. Every Day 5 your child will be responsible for one of the many activities in their TUSC hand books. They will know their activity at least one week in advance. Some weeks they will have responsibilities that will require some research and time working at home on their part. Other weeks they should be able to complete their TUSC work at school.
You can help your child with all of their activities by either lending them a hand getting it organized or by listening to them practice in front of you. The club is run like a meeting where the students are in charge. Each student is marked on how well they speak (Volume, Clarity, Eye Contact, Speed and Following the requirements in their TUSC hand books).
What are we learning about now?
